Haiwiki Submarine Cable
Client: UEA Trenchless, MSD/Alcatel Submarine Networks
Project: Diving support for directional bore and cable shore end landing services.
Location: Coogee, NSW
The Haiwiki submarine cable project links Australia and New Zealand to Hawaii and USA with a design capacity of 42Tbps this cable is currently the highest cross-sectional capacity link across the Pacific Ocean. Diving support was provided to the directional drilling contractor UEA to locate and survey the exit of the bore on the seabed in 34m water depth, remove the directional drilling head for subsequent recovery, install the subsea completion piece and assist with the proving and roping of the bore in preparation for the cable landing. The cable landing for MSD/ Alcatel Submarine Networks was successfully executed including the installation of the hauling wire with a tug prior to the lay and the cable hauling and post lay survey and cable protection installation.
